Stay Healthy!

Starting this week on my official trip to Ranchi I had a bout of severe food poisoning followed by a bacterial infection in the leg which left me out of work for a whole one week. It meant a lot of missed official commitments & appointments. While I have almost recovered, it did make me realize that health is not valued till sickness comes. We all know health is of paramount importance, but we do not make it a priority until it deteriorates. And believe me, it's not a good state to be in. When asked what surprised him about humanity the most, the Dalai Lama replied: “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health." I have seen so many of us who thought they had no time for healthy living, sooner or later had to find time for illness. Staying Healthy for many of us will require a lifestyle change and when I say this, know that changing our lifestyle has never been easy, no matter how large or small the chan...

Self Motivation!

My younger brother went through a regular medical check-up this week and was suggested some lifestyle changes which will require a lot of Self Motivation. The last six years of my entrepreneurship journey has taught me that consistent Self Motivation is required to pursue anything, from simple daily goals to lifelong dreams. Self Motivation and our love for what we do is all that can keep us going and are required at every step. Self Motivation for me is the power to achieve the things we want in our life. During my Entrepreneurial Journey, I did find myself in motivational slumps that I had to work to get out of. Sometimes it was like a continuous cycle where I was motivated for a period of time, fell out and then had to build things back up again. We’ve all got our inner demons. They lurk in the shadows of our minds, keeping us from achieving what we really want. I learned early to never give up if we ever fail. Ups and downs are a part of any business or for that matter Life. I a...

Start With Empathy!

We have been dealing with Street Food Vendors in the last many months and very soon we realized that If we want to make life better for them, we need to have intimate knowledge of their challenges, the conditions that led them to be in the situation they are in, and the dreams, desires, fears, and frustrations they experience as they work to improve their situation. When we show deep empathy toward them, their defensive energy goes down, and positive energy replaces it. That's when we can get more creative in solving their problems. Empathy and compassion are things we can develop, and it starts with thinking about other people's circumstances, understanding their pains and frustrations, and knowing that those emotions are every bit as real as our own. This helps us develop perspective, and opens us up to helping others, which also enhances our sense of gratitude. When we serve others, we serve ourselves, and we’re able to accomplish everything dreamed of. We become more c...

Ego Trip: A Journey to Nowhere!

I remembered the above quote by Robert Half while speaking to one of my clients who shared that he spends a major part of his time managing egos of his colleagues, peers & clients. We live in a world where everyone has a really, really big ego. As I write, I can already feel mine vibrating and telling me things I shouldn’t be paying heed to. That’s what ego does to us - it overshadows everything, taking away our sense of rationality. It forces us to make everything about ourselves. Ego affects the way we live our lives, making us unhappy and can take away so many beautiful things in our life like losing our sense of gratitude. Thanks to a big ego, we waste most of our energy in defending ourselves and it makes us insecure and competitive in an unhealthy way. A huge ego stops us from learning new things and comes in the way of our success. When we are constantly trying to be better than everyone else, we take everything as a straight hit to our self-worth. Our ego stops us from e...

Fight The Fear!

Today's TOI Newspaper carries Profile of Women who faced their fears, belled the cat, got things done. Fear is the four-letter word that confronts all of us. At every phase of our life, we are scared of something - immediate or in the future. At some point — present or past — fear has torn us all away from some significant accomplishment or victory. I have always pushed my daughters to be fearless. Being fearless is when you let faith take over. Faith, that the burden you are carrying will not get heavier and that you have the strength to carry it. Underneath our fears lie great opportunities. Because when we start doing the things that scare us the most, tearing down the invisible barriers that separate us from the good life, we become the person we’ve always dreamed about in our mind: our ideal self. That means finding our courage is a life-changing decision. Fear will always be around to tell us what we can’t do—it’s up to us to face our fears, and tell ourselves that we can....
