Ego Trip: A Journey to Nowhere!

I remembered the above quote by Robert Half while speaking to one of my clients who shared that he spends a major part of his time managing egos of his colleagues, peers & clients. We live in a world where everyone has a really, really big ego. As I write, I can already feel mine vibrating and telling me things I shouldn’t be paying heed to. That’s what ego does to us - it overshadows everything, taking away our sense of rationality. It forces us to make everything about ourselves. Ego affects the way we live our lives, making us unhappy and can take away so many beautiful things in our life like losing our sense of gratitude.

Thanks to a big ego, we waste most of our energy in defending ourselves and it makes us insecure and competitive in an unhealthy way. A huge ego stops us from learning new things and comes in the way of our success. When we are constantly trying to be better than everyone else, we take everything as a straight hit to our self-worth. Our ego stops us from exposing our vulnerable side because we don’t want to take the risk of facing rejection. We don’t take risks or the chance that could change our life for the better because we’re so engrossed in proving our point. Secretly, we keep waiting for others to come to us and by the time we realize, it’s too late. This way, we miss out on amazing people or even worse, alienate them.

Our ego is our silent partner-too often with a controlling interest. Let us focus on our strengths. Or better yet - make our insecurities our strengths. Let humility pave the path towards authentic confidence. Because the ego is exhausting but confidence - that’s energizing. The solution is to gain control of our ego, and that’s the best gift we can give to ourselves, else it’ll continue getting in the way of our relationships, career, and life. EGO-The only requirement to destroy any relationship, Take off the E and let it GO!!

Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
