A Meeting With The Hon'ble Minister of State for Finance!

Image
I had the privilege of meeting our Hon'ble Minister of State for Finance Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal on the sidelines of one of the events hosted by CII. While every speaker in the event was trying to impress everyone in English and here was our Minister who chose to speak in Hindi. His speech was impressive, had a grasp on the subject, had his figures on tips and left the audience spellbound. He was humble, had the desire to learn and hunger to do something good for his country.

Why are we not having enough conversation?

Conversation plays a very important role in our Personal/Business life. We need communication to express our needs, thoughts, and opinions to others and conversation is important in communication. Every conversation is an opportunity to share and to learn. So, last week, I was catching up with some old friends at a restaurant. We were reminiscing on some good times, enjoying some delicious food, and having some great laughs. At one point, my eyes ended up wandering to a nearby table and noticed something odd. At that particular table of six, everyone was silent. They all had their phones in their hands and they were just typing away. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they had a long day and they were just unwinding. The next thing that I noticed blew my mind: they were all communicating with each other through a group text. When someone posted something, they all laughed, exchanged a few words, and their heads were once again, buried in their screens. With each passing d...

Why is Letting Go of Things That No Longer Serve You so Difficult?

In the recent past, I have seen people clinging on to belongings, jobs/business, situations, and relationships that do not serve them anymore, for dear life as at times their mind makes them believe that they still need them. When we hold on to these things that we think we need, we let go of the trust and faith that we are always supported. It is natural for things to come in and out of our lives, and the lesson is to trust when it’s time to let some things go. Once you have acknowledged that it is time for you to let go, your mind might begin to flood your thoughts with reasons of why you shouldn’t. Nostalgia, possibility, opportunity. It can be sad to release large parts of our lives. There is nothing wrong with feeling this sadness. To help cope with this, take some time to honor the places these aspects of your life have held. Find something that resonates with you, where you can hold space for this and find closure for it. Trust that great things are coming to fill the void....

Why it’s so hard to quit, Even when it’s in our best interest?

If every morning it’s a struggle to get out of bed because you hate your life so much, it might be time to consider quitting. Maybe that feeling in your gut that you want to stop doing what you’re doing is warranted. Maybe doing what you’re doing is causing you more harm than good. Maybe there are better opportunities out there for you. Quitting something that’s hurting you more than it’s helping you is not always a bad thing. You should likely quit what you are doing immediately if…A) … there is immense pressure to stay, but not a good reason. B) … you have a boss who will not change. C) … you have reached the end. Jobs end. They are supposed to. D) … you are just doing it for the money or to pay the Bills. E) … you’ve found the ceiling. F) … because you are in your comfort zone. Comfort does not always equal happiness. Having the confidence to quit a bad situation can encourage you to try something new, and trying new things is one of the best ways to find something that’s...

It’s Not Too Late!

Is there something you’ve always wanted to do or be but haven’t done anything about? Or maybe you tried to, but ended up quitting and swearing it off as impossible? What comes to mind? I think people are more interested in the “idea” of becoming or doing something they want than the actual execution of it. They’re more in love with the dream than putting in the hard work necessary to bring it to fruition. They’d rather be inspired than be the inspiration. While the motivation behind this wishful thinking varies, I think it mainly stems from the notion that we think it’s too late. That we missed the boat, and another one isn’t coming to pick us up. That we’re stuck doing whatever it is we’re doing right now and can’t change. That’s a bunch of crap. You can always change. You can always reinvent. It’s never too late! We are great at negative self-talk. These are all valid feelings, but every single one of them is addressable if you care enough to want to make a change. “The Resistance...

Sometimes it’s just nice to be helpful!

A few years back, when I started my entrepreneurial journey, so I did find that I was almost always on the other side of favors (i.e. the one asking). Would you be willing to join my company? What do you think about this business model? Would you mind introducing me to that person? Could you go through my website? Share this post? Like this page? At the end of every request, I usually find myself including that same “quid pro quo” statement. Letting them know (in the sincerest way possible) that even though it may not be today, there is definitely something in it for them down the line. Operating under the assumption that, in the business world, people don’t simply help others without getting something in return. Upholding the notion that “favors” are yet another form of currency we spend and accrue as we carry out our professional lives. But not all favors are this calculated. Some people offer help because they believe in karma. What goes around comes around. Others do it becaus...
