My Daughters :)
My two daughters are the biggest gift; I've said it so many times and it sounds like a cliche, but the thing about being a parent is when you think you've cracked it, and you're on top of your game, they change again and you have to catch up and adjust. I feel such a responsibility to instill good values in her, to be confident, to have discipline. Don't ever act harshly. That's the lesson I learned the hard way, raising two daughters. As a dad, I had to control my words and actions, throttling back my emotions. I didn't always succeed. I snapped at them, and there were a few times I yelled in anger. You learn, over time, that those unbridled moments reveal more about your own temperament and leadership abilities than whatever situation caused the outburst.
Raising two daughters taught me a lot about seeing things from their point of view. As a "man's man" I was always trying to be the tough guy growing up. I didn't think too much about how other people were feeling in any given situation. This caused problems at work because I became so focused on my own way of working and opinions. Learning to have empathy made me a better dad, a better leader...a better person. I can't imagine what kind of corporate drone I would have become otherwise.
I have for a
long time believed that successful aging requires that we become life-long learners, curious seekers of new experiences and perspectives, pushing the frontiers of our knowledge, tolerating risk and uncertainty, even failure as we change and grow. But I now recognize that our learning is informed and enlarged when we are open to the lessons our daughters teach us. I hope that my daughter grows up empowered and doesn't define herself by the way she looks but by qualities that make her an intelligent, strong and responsible woman.
Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
