Embrace Stretch Goals!

My stint in one of the leading Private Sector Banks in India taught me to think Big and embrace Stretch Goals in Business & Life. I believe the intention of setting Stretch Goals is to push ourself outside the comfort zone. Growth will not happen if we keep doing what we’ve already done in the past. It comes from failing while trying to make progress. If we aim to achieve five great things and only succeed at two of them, we are outperforming all the people who never tried in the first place.

Set stretch goals. Don’t ever settle for mediocrity. The key to stretch is to reach for more than you think is possible. Don’t sell yourself short by thinking that you’ll fail. Stretch goals involve radical expectations that go beyond current capabilities and performance. Stretch goals demand more quantity and quality of work and force us to innovate more often than ordinary goals. And in the pursuit of it, we grow our skills to where they need to be in order to get it done.

My experience has been that when I say some numbers or stretch goals, and then it usually happens. Maybe not on schedule, but it usually happens. Embracing Stretch Goals is the first step towards smashing Business & Life Goals and reaching targets we didn’t even think were possible. Go Big and see if we can surprise ourselves with incredible performance.
