Celebrate Life With What You Have!

It was my Birthday this week and I enjoyed all the attention, warmth and love I received from my family, friends & colleagues on my Birthday. Birthdays by their very nature, have built-in unique energy that teaches us to look at ourselves in a particularly thoughtful way. And so I did have a look over the recent few years where I have now learned to accept whatever the present moment contains, as I had chosen it. And always work with it, not against it. I take a deep breath in and just appreciate where this dream of mine has taken me. I have now learned to ask for help when I need it so I can teach others that it is a strength to ask for help when we need it. I've come to see that everything everywhere is a chance to choose to celebrate life; from what looks small and ordinary to the monumental occasions that are part and parcel of one's birthright. From sharing a majestic meal with family to every conversation with my daughters, time with my friends and colleagues, a dr...

Conviction, Confidence & Courage!

I did some Campus Interviews last week and could find that while most of the students did possess strengths and skills required, but what was missing big time in them was the conviction, confidence, and courage to take up the jobs being offered to them. What they all clearly needed was to have a deep conviction to pursue their creative gifts, the confidence to always be themselves, and the courage to follow their dreams. All of us have made mistakes, experienced failure and felt disappointment in our lives. I know I certainly have had more than my fair share. Some of us have also been subjected to hardships and injustices. All these experiences affect a person’s Conviction, Confidence, and Courage. I keep telling myself that it is important to remember that our past does not have to dictate our future. The only thing that matters is how we act today. We need to act with conviction, confidence & courage while pursuing any goal. A willingness to just go for it, to believe in ourse...

Be Resilient!

Having been in Sales for long, questions which get repeatedly asked from me is What is Selling & What is that one personality trait that anyone absolutely must have to be successful at selling anything? For me, selling means getting to "YES" and, by the very nature of the world and all its variety and choices, the only way to get to "YES" is to be willing to live through lots of "NO." Most people get afraid when they hear "NO", so they avoid asking. They avoid trying. They avoid situations where they might be rejected. The single most personality trait required for Sales in my view is Resilience, which means being willing to hear "NO," learn from the experience, and move on. Resilience means being willing to take a risk and fail, and take the risk again. When faced with adversity, we all get afraid. We are afraid that we won’t be able to overcome the adversity. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s what we do when we’re a...

Different Perspective!

Today I came back from our Regular Monthly Manthan (Meeting) in Bangalore where I & my Partner spend a day discussing & reviewing with our Mentor & Chairman various strategic initiatives related to our company. One important aspect of these discussions is the Different Perspectives that get discussed. Perspective is the way individuals see the world. It comes from their personal point of view and is shaped by life experiences, values, their current state of mind, the assumptions they bring into a situation, and a whole lot of other things. For me, there’s great value in recognizing different perspectives in conversations because these enable us to hear and react to things very differently. The key to successful relationships lies solely in our ability to take the different perspectives of another. Different Perspective-taking is that all-important skill of being able to look at things from a point of view other than our own. Different Perspective-taking brings in the min...
