Be Resilient!

Having been in Sales for long, questions which get repeatedly asked from me is What is Selling & What is that one personality trait that anyone absolutely must have to be successful at selling anything? For me, selling means getting to "YES" and, by the very nature of the world and all its variety and choices, the only way to get to "YES" is to be willing to live through lots of "NO." Most people get afraid when they hear "NO", so they avoid asking. They avoid trying. They avoid situations where they might be rejected. The single most personality trait required for Sales in my view is Resilience, which means being willing to hear "NO," learn from the experience, and move on. Resilience means being willing to take a risk and fail, and take the risk again.

When faced with adversity, we all get afraid. We are afraid that we won’t be able to overcome the adversity. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s what we do when we’re afraid that matters. Here’s a different way to look at fear. The fear that naturally comes with adversity is a signal that we’re standing in front of an opportunity. We can think of the fear as a springboard on which to leap from adversity into a new opportunity. I call it making a courageous leap. Resilience isn’t about being fearless; it’s about acknowledging the fear and taking courageous leaps, rather than getting trapped in paralysis.

Resilience isn't a single skill. It's a variety of skills that helps us recover quickly from difficulties. If we are resilient, then when life knocks us down, we bounce back and we keep moving. Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient. As my kids grow up, I think a lot about the lessons and values I want to impart to them. More than any particular skill or even financial support, I believe perseverance and resilience will serve them best. As Parents, we need to teach resilience to our kids - that ability to bounce back and keep moving.

Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
