Figure Out What Works And Do It!
Berkshire Hathaway’s vice chair, Charlie Munger, responding to a question about human nature at the recent annual Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting, said that the one mantra he followed in life came from Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew, the first Prime Minister of Singapore who governed for three decades. Lee Kuan Yew — he said one thing over and over and over again all his life, and that was to “Figure out what works and DO IT." Go at Life from this simple philosophy, you’ll find out it works wonderfully well. I could relate to the above philosophy as much as we had followed it in our Startup Journey of many years.
According to the “problem-solving” approach, there should be a logical and coherent relationship between problems and solutions. However, we had encountered numerous examples when such logic does not stand up to real-life & business. At times we need to take bold steps to do something different as the solutions are not always directly related to the problems. Once we create a positive frame via compliments and reframing and then discover some previous solutions and exceptions to the problems, we can keep gently nudging ourselves to do more of what is working and kept doing more of it efficiently.
Do something. If it works, do more of it. If it doesn't, do something else. Many people waste years looking for what works. Anything works. All they have to do is to apply the laws and principles that govern this universe. Of course, using leverage will help you go wide fast. Your inner man must always be fed with the information written in the books. Work the system. And keep working it. Just do what works for you, because there will always be someone who thinks differently. Always be found doing what works!
