Back To Basics!
My Business Partner & I keep sharing notes on our views on Emerging Opportunities & Challenges in Business. This week he shared a story of a Unicorn (a startup company valued at over $1 billion) with an underlying message that Profitability and defendable business model are the only sustainable way to be...Funding, customer love, great technology are but enablers...What he was telling was that if we take care of the Basics that is Profitability & defendable business model, everything else usually takes care of itself. However, we tend to skip over the Basics for a variety of reasons, including impatience, laziness, or a kind of arrogance that thinks we can sort of getaway.
But when we don't take care of the Basics, the foundation is shaky for whatever we've built: a business, a relationship, a career or personal well-being. Perhaps, we can get away with this for a while, but there's usually a background cost in uneasiness, waiting for a day of reckoning. And eventually, when a real challenge comes, the building shakes and maybe topples. On the other hand, when we handle the Basics, the cornerstones, we feel like we're on solid ground. Even if things don't turn out perfectly, in our heart we know we had the humility and conscientiousness to honor the prerequisites, the essential requirements, the bedrock of the matter.
If we want to a Life which is Simple & Happy and Business/Career which is Simple & Growing, we need to go Back to Basics and rekindle the values of empathy, compassion, love, and trust in ourselves and what we do. For me, Back to Basics is a journey of simplification to a Fulfilling Life & Growing Business. I firmly believe that deep down we are all good human beings who are born and raised with good morals and values. As we grow up and let life happen to us, with all its issues and challenges, we get to a point where our core essence is suppressed and overshadowed. All we need is to de-clutter our lives & businesses/careers from these complications and superficialities to reconnect with the core. Go Back to Basics and strengthen your foundation.
