It’s OK to Make Mistakes!
This week I was having a conversation with one of my friend's daughter who has recently graduated from what she needs to do in her career. What was worrying her most was whether or not she was making a mistake while choosing her career options. I have seen with many parents who have taken decisions for their kids all their life, suddenly leave such crucial decisions to be taken by them. What I realized is that we don’t give ourselves or those close to us much permission to make mistakes. While mistakes aren’t a huge issue in our life, we actually spend and waste a lot of time worrying about making mistakes, and also find ourselves being unnecessarily critical of those around us when they make mistakes.
"I made a mistake." Those are four words nobody ever wants to have to admit. Truth be told, everyone makes mistakes. It’s a part of the learning process of life. Everybody does, although no one admits it. I have made enough and seen enough to know that it is a regular occurrence for everyone, and it’s nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. We all like to strive for perfection and hate to disappoint people, but in reality, we all make mistakes. We replay everything in our heads and try to figure out where we went wrong. In the end, we have to live with what we did. If we are lucky enough, the mistake can be fixed. I believe realizing that it is OK to make mistakes is the key to helping us live a happier life.
"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." ~ Albert Einstein. Mistakes, gaffes, faux pas, failed attempts have been part of my Startup Journey, it has been part of the exploration and fine-tuning of our products and services. Without them, we won't have known the limits and possibilities of what we can do. I strongly believe that by giving ourselves and others permission to make mistakes, we actually create an environment within our own being and within our key relationships and teams, that is conducive to trust, connection, risk-taking, forgiveness, creativity, and genuine success. It's OK to Make a Mistake, try not to repeat the mistake instead make a new one.
Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!ππ½π
