Surround yourself with different people with different experiences!

In his recent interview to a business newspaper, Ajay Banga, CEO, Mastercard, had shared his thoughts on the need for diversity in the global workforce, and the necessity of embracing all races, cultures, and genders. According to him, the only way to do this is to be able to celebrate, at an individual level, what makes us different. He said “It’s on each of us to keep that as a common foundation, no matter where we are and think about it — for any company or even for society to succeed, we have to acknowledge that diversity is a key component in strength. That is diversity in thought and perspective, diversity in skills and resources, and diversity in revenue streams and innovation." We have to surround ourselves with people who don’t look the same and have had different experiences. It is the best way to ensure we don’t fall victim to the same blind spots again and again and again. In my opinion, the best way to combat our "blissful ignorance" is to surround oursel...

Run Aways from Negativity!

This week I ran away from one of the WhatsApp Groups because it was becoming Very Negative or Not Positive (somehow I do not like the word Negative, I am replacing it with the word 'Not Positive). I believe people become Not Positive when they have issues not fixed. It may be that they’ve never had the chance, don’t know how to or simply don’t want to fix the issues they have in their life. And for those who don’t want to do, it is because fixing the problem requires some work, which they are not comfortable doing. The problem I see comes when we are friends with these people. Many Non Positive posts by them in social media centers on our current situation. They will present facts and all the necessary statistics to show that we can’t go far. In fact, we can’t go anywhere. So when someone wants to dump Non-Positivity on us, we don’t need to take it personally. Just smile wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. We’ll be much happier. When we are on our journey to success, ...

We Must Help Each Other!

This week I saw two messages in one of my school's WhatsApp group wherein the underlying message was that We Must Help Each Other. Last few years while creating our Jeevitam Platform, which helps people find their Livelihood, we did not anticipate that our work will mean so much to many and in turn, made us understand the value that comes from helping other people. There is a Chinese saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” For centuries, the greatest thinkers have suggested the same thing: Happiness is found in helping others. A meaningful life isn’t found but created through our actions. And it starts by looking for ways to help others. And while we may not believe in an inter-connected universe that rewards good deeds, there is something to be said about how helping others change our perspective. All t...

To Travel is To Live To Learn!

This week I had the opportunity to Lead a Business Delegation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to Italy for a week as its Mission Leader. It was a big opportunity given to me by CII to learn how two Nations can collaborate and open Opportunities for Business and it's People. Often times, I stop and reflect on how travel has changed my life. During these times, I realize how much travel is a part of me. Travel has always opened up so many doors and opportunities for me. For me, travel is Living & Learning. It is seizing each day and making the most out of every situation. For me, travel is experiencing things beyond the usual and is consistently challenging, exciting, and fulfilling. Travel has a way of stretching the mind. The stretch comes from experiencing firsthand how others do differently, what we believed to be the right and only way. I believe people who don’t travel cannot have a global view, all they see is what’s in front of them. Those people cannot accep...

Every next level of your life will demand a different you!

This week I came across the above quote and could relate so much to present ever-changing business and life models with the advent of technology and see many struggling to cope up with these fast-emerging changes. We all have ups and downs in our lives because of these changes. We have those moments when everything seems to be going wrong and we just want to change everything. We also go through those times when we feel like we can do no wrong, we can do this and do that and be on top of our game at every level. We oftentimes don’t realize it but that is simply us moving on to a different level of our lives, sometimes it may seem like a simple transition, and sometimes it may feel like it takes forever for the changes to show themselves. We are all so worried about changing the world that we forget to think about changing ourselves. We have to learn to recognize the change approach so that we are not caught off guard when these changes come in our life or business. It allows us to b...
