Surround yourself with different people with different experiences!

In his recent interview to a business newspaper, Ajay Banga, CEO, Mastercard, had shared his thoughts on the need for diversity in the global workforce, and the necessity of embracing all races, cultures, and genders. According to him, the only way to do this is to be able to celebrate, at an individual level, what makes us different. He said “It’s on each of us to keep that as a common foundation, no matter where we are and think about it — for any company or even for society to succeed, we have to acknowledge that diversity is a key component in strength. That is diversity in thought and perspective, diversity in skills and resources, and diversity in revenue streams and innovation."

We have to surround ourselves with people who don’t look the same and have had different experiences. It is the best way to ensure we don’t fall victim to the same blind spots again and again and again. In my opinion, the best way to combat our "blissful ignorance" is to surround ourselves with people who are different than we are. Talk to someone who has had a different type of childhood than you. Talk to someone older/ younger than you. Talk to someone who has a different occupation than you. Etc. Exposing ourselves to a new way of life may be just what we need in order to see the change in our own perspectives. I am by no means saying that we will agree with every person we talk to, but we may be surprised at how our own point of view changes as we open our minds to ideas that are different than our own.

I believe while we keep working on the process to achieve our life goals, we all need to be surrounded by different people. People with different experiences, ambitions, dreams, encouraging attitude. Build a team in which we can work together to support each other and build better lives. This is the kind of support that we’ll need around us. This is the kind of detail that will make the difference. Having different people that can support us. That can get the best out of us and bring to the table different experiences that we can learn from. When we open our mind and we challenge ourself to know more about the world and the people around us, I promise all that we will grow exponentially.

Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
