Experience Counts!
This week I attended the wedding of my first Boss's daughter in Ajmer. It was 27 years back when I started my career and all the advice he gave me at that point in my career holds good today too. I was indeed lucky enough to have these Experienced and Knowledgeable People as my Counselor/Advisor/Mentor in every phase of my life. And I will always be thankful to them for taking a special interest in helping me both in my personal and professional life. I think we all have likely experienced, in some form or other, a successful mentoring relationship. Perhaps it was an older sibling who took us under their wing, a teacher at school who helped guide our career or a more experienced professional who showed us the ropes.
In our Startup Journey, we were lucky to have a Very Experienced & Knowledgeable Person as our Mentor. He has been helping us build and scale our Startup, get the focus and be a constant companion in our Journey. I believe Experienced and Knowledgeable People who are also wise and trusted Counselors are great assets for all who are looking to develop their Personal & Professional lives. They help us find opportunities to stimulate our personal and professional growth as they draw from their own experiences. It is also beneficial to see how they became successful and understand their perspective on professional and personal development. I have experienced that they become our trusted advisor and help us guide and give insights on instances, we may not see ourselves.
However, for me, Mentoring is also a two-way street. We need to set our expectations and contribute to the relationship in a meaningful way, not just expecting to receive professional advice. We need to be willing to ask for help, show vulnerability, and explore different paths and perspectives. We must be open and receptive to learning and trying new ideas. No one wants to advise someone who isn't open to learning! Over the years I have learned that We must find time to stop and thank the Experienced & Knowledgeable People who have made a difference in our lives and keep Learning from them in our journey of Growth.
Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
