Change with the Changing Times

I have been speaking to many in the last few days regarding the present ongoing crisis. One theme which is clearly emerging from the ongoing discussion is that the world is changing fast and it will never be the same again post this crisis. The way we work will be not the same again, work from home is now a reality. The way we do business is not going to be the same again, new business models will emerge, Uber has started delivering Big Basket orders now. The Business which we do may not be same again, hotels are now becoming qurantine facilities. Jobs which we do may not be same again, many are loosing jobs and are now becoming GiG Economy Workers/Entrepreneurs. These are actually highly turbulent times, and the old saying really is true in today's times : the only constant we can count on is change. But one question which intrigues me is that even when change is so necessary to survive, why is it so hard and painful?

I think people find it much easier just to keep doing things the same old way, even when they know that way is obviously no longer working, in the hope the things will be same again soon. However, the big problem with that kind of thinking is that when we continually resist change, we risk being left irretrievably behind by our competitors, our customers and the world. Nokia resisted the change, became history and samsung/apple took the lead. I believe it's not easy to change what we do in our life and business. It requires lot of understanding of where the value is shifting in context of present crisis, spotting opportunities, and taking purposeful actions to seize them.

I have learnt over the years as a Startuprenure that change is constant and literally painful. But once we learn how to deal with change, it becomes the way we do things—a beneficial habit built around the things we need to do to continuously improve, adapt, innovate and change. This habit helped us in this crisis, our startup Jeevitam quickly evolved as a Digital Livelihood Platform and is helping people find livelihood while everyone works from home. Besides, we need to understand that the success of any change is integrally linked to our ability to clearly identify, communicate and garner acceptance from those whose will be responsible to affect the change. Things are changing because of this unprecedented crisis, and the way we do our work is changing very fast. I am confident we will survive this crisis by having a open mind, keep changing with the changing times and by staying relevant.

Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!🏃🏽😊
