Character Is What You Do For Others!

'If excellence is what you do, the character is what you do for others ~ Adam Grant. This week I read through this quote and did find it relevant in the context of What I believe and what We do. I believe more than anything, people of good character are deeply driven to help others. The greatest thing people of good character believe in and do is help others succeed. These types of people will jump in and help in any way they can, especially when it is good for everyone. Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than doing something for others. People with a Character find happiness & purpose when they do something for others.

While writing today's Blog I was remembering my Nana (My Maternal Grandfather). Since childhood, I had always seen him helping everyone in his family and business. He was always there for his family, he helped everyone in whatever way he could, and he was always there for them. I think his helping nature defined his character and is still remembered by all of us for all his love and respect even after he is long gone. Similarly, I have seen our Mentor always working to keep doing small things he could do for someone. He never misses an opportunity that comes to lift someone else’s spirits, to lend a helping hand. I think We should always be willing to help people around us in any way that we can because we truly never know what impact we have made in that person’s life. And the fact is that it may have been a small thing to us but it may be the entire world to the other person and I think that defines our character.

As with individuals, organizations also have their own character. It is unique to the organization and helps drive it forward. Organizational character defines what customers and partners can expect in their dealings with the organization. In our Startup Jeevitam, we are on a Mission Livelihood for All to help Vulnerable Segments find Sustainable Livelihood. I keep saying when you donate Food, clothes, medicine, etc, you do good to someone for that moment. However, when you help people who are in need find Sustainable Livelihood, we help them for Life. Jeevitam is impacting vulnerable segments in every phase of their life by helping them find Livelihood (Full Time/Part Time), helping them skill through Skilling Firms, helping in financial inclusion through financial institutions, and helping get access to government schemes through our government partners. I think this is the true character of Jeevitam which gets demonstrated to our stakeholders, employees, customers, communities, and to the world at large. Do something that defines your Character.
