Try Something Big, Try Something New!
I keep saying to my Team that in a Startup like ours when we think of doing something, why to think Small, why not think of trying something Big. And when we try to do something, we question everything, question what's working & what's not working and that's how we may stumble on trying something New. I believe that's the essence of any Startup. Almost a month back, we tried to answer the question, what after 'Beti Padao, Beti Bachao'? (Save Girls, Educate Girls). We came up with the Answer: 'Beti Ko Swawlambi Banao' (Help Make her Self Dependent). The next question was how many Girls can we Impact? We said to ourselves, why think Small, why can't we impact as many? Here, we added one more theme, 'Har Nari Banegi Aatmanirbhar' (Every Woman will become Self-Dependent) to increase Women's Workforce Participation. And Now we are trying to do something Big, we are launching Audacious Project on 2nd October to help over Million Women/Girls find Sustainable Livelihood. And to achieve the stated objective, We are trying to do something new, while we look into Emerging Opportunities & Possibilities.
'Impossible is just a word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is Nothing' ~ Muhammad Ali. When we think Big, the first resistance we face from within & external is that it looks impossible to achieve. I firmly believe the biggest mistake most of us make in life is not trying to do something Big and taking massive actions to fulfill our true potential. I still remember my experience of working in the Largest Private Sector Bank wherein we used to first get audacious Targets that were almost impossible to achieve, then we used to put our heads together to figure out how we are going to achieve those numbers given, take massive action and we used to achieve them as a Team. I think that Big things do happen and that things can turn around even in the direst and most difficult situations like the current crisis, if we believe in what we are trying to do, work hard to achieve what we aspire and keep striving & fighting in trying to do Something Big.
'And if We’re going to invent or do something new, We’ve got to be willing to be misunderstood for long periods of time. Anything new and different is initially going to be misunderstood. Either way, if we can’t weather this kind of misunderstanding and criticism, then whatever we do, don’t do anything new.' ~ Jeff Bezos. As we Try to do something new, we always run the risk of things not going as planned. I believe the greatest rewards come to those who are Bold enough to create something new, unexpected, and impactful. They see a unique opportunity and are Bold enough to go for it with everything they have. They are strong believers in innovation and growth—constantly asking questions in order to anticipate events so that we can evolve and are bold enough to change before we are forced to. And they never give up. I believe since the onset of the crisis, many were bold enough to laugh in the face of fear, letting benefits outweigh risks and grabbing life by the horns! Many dumped the old and saw an opportunity to reset the way we work and live. Many saw this crisis as an opportunity to do something they've been always wanting or trying to do. Many attempted to try new things, acquire new skills, and accepted the newness of the skill acquired. Many took bold bets and risks with a clear Perspective that they may fail and they were ok with it. Let us push ourselves, and get comfortable being uncomfortable while we Try to do Something Big, Try to do something New.
