And This is Just a Moment in Time!
This day, this match, had to come, of course, for Roger Federer, and for tennis, just as it inevitably must for every athlete in every sport. Roger Federer reimagined the game of tennis. No one had ever played it with his combination of speed, power, creativity, and grace. Federer was much more than a balletic performer who danced across the stage displaying his artistry. What made Federer more than an artist, and one of the greatest champions in any sport, was the deep competitive fire he brought to the game. The package – all poise, precision, and perfection – sometimes seemed too good to be true. Roger Federer played 24 years on tour, more than 1,500 matches. Yet he never retired during a match due to injury. What finally forced Federer to step away from the game, at 41 was his simple inability to compete. After all the high-flying magic, all the legend-making, all the on-court poetry, it was a simple, pedestrian matter of Federer’s body not being able to carry out the wishes of his tennis brain that signaled the end.
Another moment that will perhaps stay with us forever is Federer and Nadal, sitting on the bench at the end of the match (which they lost, but who cares), holding hands, both crying their hearts out as they watched a video play out on the screen. This wasn’t just sport. This was a life lesson. The greatest of rivals can be the best of friends. “When Roger leaves the tour, an important part of my life is leaving too because of all the moments that he has been next or in front of me in important moments of my life,” Nadal said. And that brought the curtain down on a night that few will forget. This meant so much to them. And they meant so much to us. “I was able to remind myself always on the court again how wonderful this is,” said Federer. “This is not the end-end – life goes on. I’m healthy and happy, everything’s great, and this is just a moment in time.” A very special moment in time; a Federer moment in time.
Gaining life’s experience makes life fascinating; overcoming challenges makes life significant. This world comprises so many trials that it’s difficult to find the right moment to let go and live in that moment. When We speak of that one moment in time, We are talking about that moment where we are the ultimate winner, the shining star, a time when everything is going our way. It’s our one moment to share with the world what we can do. To anyone like Roger Federer who had that “one moment in time,” it usually comes in the form of something like a fairy-tale-written to enjoy and cry as he watched it play out on the big screen. I believe for everyone in life there can be a very special moment in time when the world recognizes you as a winner. However, till that time like Roger Federer keep working hard, stay humble, keep that competitive spirit alive, recognize the support you are receiving from your colleagues, mentors, family & friends. Keep Working towards a very special moment in time where the world recognizes you as a Winner, a Federer Moment in Time.
