Way to Learn - Read & Ask!

This week I gave a 50 Pages Policy Document to my Team for reading and sharing the key takeaways for our Startup Jeevitam. It took a lot of persistence from my side to make everyone from my Team go through the document. I realised somewhere in the new Digital World our attention span has reduced drastically. Most of us now read over mobile phones which are full of distractions. And somewhere as we progress in our age, we lose the art of reading as much. Besides, as a kid, we are quite inquisitive and accordingly, we ask a lot of questions from our parents, from everyone as we are not afraid of being judged. But as we grow, we stop asking as many questions as we start getting afraid of being judged. While in School & College, we are expected to Learn by reading the books assigned and asking questions from our Teachers & Professors. But as get into our life, we stop learning by reading & asking, we start learning from our experiences. I see nothing wrong with learning from experiences, I believe it's a pretty hard way to learn. Easier Way to Learn - Read & Ask.

We all know learning is a continuous process and we stop growing when we stop learning. How many times have we heard someone brag about how few books they have read since school/college? In my view, we start declining when we stop reading & learning. Very early in my life, I cultivated this habit of reading newspapers every day. I still remember, during my college days we could not afford to buy the Economic Times newspaper, in my Dad's office this newspaper used to come, and in the evening he will bring it for me to read and I used to spend hours reading editorials which helped me have conversations with people on diverse topics. Now, I daily read 8-10 Newspapers digitally. Besides, I have promised myself to read at least one book every week. Also, I read articles & documents sent to me by my Mentors, Advisory Board Members & friends from time to time. I generally keep my morning hours to read as much to avoid distractions and help increase my attention span. I have experienced that reading is one of the most important and effective ways to learn and improve our knowledge in various fields. It is a fundamental skill that enables us to gain new insights, develop critical thinking, and expand our understanding of the world around us. So, in whichever phase of life, please never stop reading as much.

'Every next level of your life will demand a different you.' ~ Leonardo DiCaprio. We all have countless better versions of ourselves, inside us. They are waiting to be expressed and realized. Sometimes, we will not be able to proceed — in our career, a relationship, a dream — unless we bring “another you” to the table. Without personal improvement, professional expansion becomes impossible. I believe, if we do not ask, we will not get the clarifications, advice, or help required for us to learn and move to the next level. In School & College, we have Teachers/Professors, our Friends/Relatives and Patents to help us. And as we grow and get into the professional world they get replaced by our Immediate superiors/colleagues, Mentors, Advisors/Consultants. I myself have been blessed to have Mentors in every phase of my life and they played a very vital role in my career and personal life. We always need someone from whom we can seek counsel, discuss our viewpoints and take advice on any aspect of work or life. In our Startup, Jeevitam we have a very strong Advisory Board who is always willing to listen to us, advise us and help us wherever and whenever required. If we want to begin achieving success with the deepest desires of our hearts, we need to know more today than we did yesterday. Continuous improvement leads to continuous opportunity because the world rewards such drive. If we want to achieve what most people don’t have, then we must do what most people are unwilling to do. Make Learning a Top Priority, and Keep Reading & Asking.
