You Don't Ask - You Don't Recieve!

This week I again read through this post from Matt Higgins on LinkedIn wherein he shared a Steve Jobs clip from '94. In this interview he recounts the story about a single phone call that likely changed the trajectory of his life. I am sharing excerpts from his post. "When Jobs was 12 Years old, he cold called the Founder of Helwett Packard explaining he wanted to build a frequency - and boldly asking if Mr. Helwett had any spare parts he could use. Not only did he end up getting those spare parts, but his boldness also landed him a job working in an assembly line at Helwett Packard that same summer. Point is, You Don't Ask - You Don't Recieve." In my view, while Steve Jobs had this boldness to ask for help, on the other hand Mr. Helwett had this empathy to help Steve when he needed the most. It goes to show we never know how big of an impact we can make in someone's life if we Just Give Which Was Asked.

The best opportunities are the ones we never expected, they are serendipitous. Serendipity births unexpected opportunities and when We Ask, we create such opportunities. When We Ask for Help, We Ask for Support, We Ask for Time, We Ask for Resources, We Ask for Collaboration, We Ask for Partnership etc, We create new opportunities and maximize serendipity. We have to tell the world what are our Asks. In our Startup Jeevitam, we keep sharing with all our Mission Livelihood for All. Every now and then, we keep sharing updates on our Progress with as many in our entire network. In it, we share highlights, goals, and open up about our challenges and share our Asks. We have experienced that People love to come together when they are able to relate with what we are asking and the way we are asking. Mission Livelihood for All is one such audacious Mission which is helping us in Financial & Social Inclusion of the Vulnerable Segments and getting the entire ecosystem coming together towards the Mission. We need to Make it easy for people when We Ask.
Let's face it, nobody likes to be told "No." Because the fear of rejection is so strong, there is a tendency for some of us is to sit back, lay low, stay quiet and thus, stay stuck in the box. The key is to remember if we don't ask, the answer will be an automatic no. Over the years I have learnt that the intention, attitude and belief behind the action of asking is of vital importance, but with a very low attachment to the outcome -- which includes not taking the rejection personally when it happens -- and it will happen from time to time. Regardless of what area in our lives we are talking about, as a rule of thumb, if we don't ask, we don't receive. Besides, most of us want to feel like our lives mean something – that we’re making a positive difference in the world. So it’s not surprising that when we give what is asked for, it boosts our sense of happiness, It builds stronger social connections to friends and community and It helps us find meaning in our life. Be Bold Enough to Ask when Required & Be Empathetic Enough to Give when Asked.
