Diwali for me brings a lot of nostalgia, a lot of memories, a lot of experience, it's a time of the year where everyone gets together and celebrates the festival of Diwali. Going down the memory lane where there were no mobiles/phones, the only way to communicate was to meet in person or send Diwali Greetings through post. It was a time where we would go to our friends, our relatives places and wish them a Happy Diwali and share moments together. The food and the Sweets were mostly made at home, so the preparations for the festival started quite early. It was the time of the year where we would buy new clothes and gifts for family & friends on the occasion. Lightings of Diyas and candles was a process which was followed with utmost diligence. Pooja was done in the office and at home with full religious fervour. Bursting of crackers started almost a month before Diwali and reached its peak on the occasion. After the Pooja everyone will get together and try to outdo each other in bursting crackers. On the day of Diwali, you will see everyone in the best of their clothes, all the houses lit with Diyas & candles, deafening sounds of bursting crackers and everyone in the festive mood to celebrate the occasion of Diwali.
Over the Years the way we celebrate Diwali has changed a lot. Technology & Mobiles have changed the way we meet and greet on the occasion of Diwali. Now we prefer meeting Digitally, sending Diwali Greetings over WhatsApp and at the most doing some phone calls to a few of our relatives & friends. Traffic and parking problems have made going out to meet friends & relatives a difficult proposition. Most of us are so exhausted with our daily lives & travel routines that we now prefer as much to stay at home with our nears and dears or few of us take these holidays to plan a trip nearby/overseas. Special Diwali Sales by E-commerce platforms have made shopping more online. Food is now ordered over Zomato/Swiggy and Sweets are bought from the best of Sweet shops, again online. Diyas and candles have been replaced with electric lightings. Diwali crackers are now being seen as a symbol of creating noise and air pollution. Pooja is being done digitally or with the help of music platforms. We now celebrate Diwali with the same fervour but more digitally and with few of our Nears & Dears.
I believe Festivals like Diwali hold a profound significance in our Indian Culture, embodying the triumph of light over darkness and the victory of good over evil. For me these celebrations provide a platform to express our gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us and to seek divine grace for the future. I have experienced Diwali fosters a spirit of community and togetherness, creating indelible memories that strengthen social bonds. During these joyous occasions, we embrace traditional customs, share festive meals, and cherish moments with family and friends, reinforcing our sense of belonging. I believe its time to seamlessly blend our traditions, customs, and festivals with the advancements of modern technology, celebrating such occasions together for our children, families, and society. Let's take out time to celebrate all our Festivals with as many Family & Friends. Wishing You All a Very Happy and Prosperous Diwali!!
Happy Sunday!! Keep Moving & Smiling!!
