One Must Travel To Learn!

The famous travel writer Pico Iyer once said, "We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves." This perfectly encapsulates the transformative Power of Travel. This week I was traveling to Dubai for my business, post COVID for the first time. I am an avid traveller and was really enjoying the drill associated with fixing up appointments, having conversations over good food and sharing business opportunities. In my previous stint as Non Resident Indians (NRIs) Business Head for a foreign Bank in India, I used to travel across geographies. I had experienced that when we step out of our comfort zones and immerse ourselves in new cultures, cuisines, and landscapes, we gain a fresh perspective on the world and ourselves. I think those Travels helped me broaden my horizons, challenged my assumptions, and taught me invaluable lessons that I think cannot be learnt from any of the books or even in the classrooms.
I think Travel is also a gateway to personal growth and self-discovery. As we encounter diverse ways of life, we are forced to confront our own biases and preconceptions. The discomfort of being a stranger in a strange land can be a humbling and enlightening experience, prompting us to question the beliefs and values we once took for granted. For me Travel has also been a Very powerful means of cultivating empathy. I had witnessed the success stories of so many Non Resident Indians who had made a foreign country as their homes, worked hard, adapted themselves and achieved success. I think whether we travel overseas, within the country or even locally, it helps us grow personally and creates everlasting memories of our own experiences for life.
In my professional Life, while traveling in India & overseas, the experience of navigating unfamiliar terrain, communicating across language barriers, and adapting to different ways of living and doing business with people in India and overseas has been a big learning experience in resilience, open-mindedness, and cultural sensitivity. Whether it's learning a new way of doing business, understanding a new business opportunity, or simply networking, building friendships and partnerships, travel can be a constant source of intellectual and professional enrichment. By embracing the transformative Power of Travel, we not only broaden our horizons both professionally and personally, but also cultivate the wisdom and resilience to navigate the complexities of our ever-changing world. Be Authentic, Do Uncomfortable Work And Surrender To The Outcome!

This week I saw this Ted Talk about the above. I could relate to it so much to my Journey. Authenticity for me is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s all about the choice to show up and be real, to be and to let out true selves be seen. It is also about being true to who we really are. Authenticity is more than speaking; Authenticity is also about doing. Every decision we make says something about who we are. Authenticity starts in the heart.
