Stay Original, Stay Ahead
Summary:
While imitation might seem like a shortcut to success, it's our original ideas, authentic execution, and unique DNA that create lasting impact in both professional and personal spheres.
- Every attempt to copy our ideas validates our innovative approach and business model
- Authentic execution, backed by deep understanding and passion, leads to sustainable success
- True innovation comes from being original, not from imitating others' ideas.
In the last couple of weeks, We've had a few prospective clients, partners, even collaborators, try to take the ideas and processes we shared with them in confidence and present them as their own – pitching our business models like they invented them! It's not just in business either; I remember a friend once serving a drink at a party that was unmistakably my unique idea, claiming it as a 'new creation'. Sharing these recent moments with my Co-Founder, I was initially a bit bothered, but his response was truly insightful. He simply said, "There are 1000 clones. But there is only one Amazon. In a year's time, the world will realise that it is true for Jeevitam. Let the clones come..” His words completely shifted my perspective. Instead of feeling concerned, I felt a surge of confidence. It made me see that when people try to copy you, it's actually a powerful signal that you're doing something truly innovative and valuable. This realization sets the stage for understanding why both professionally and personally, originality is our greatest strength.
Looking back at our startup journey with Jeevitam, this pattern of attempted imitation is something we've seen repeatedly in the professional arena. I recall presenting a truly innovative IT solution to a major potential client during the Covid. Instead of partnering with us, they took our detailed proposal directly to their internal IT team and tasked them with replicating it. They poured two years and a huge amount of resources into this effort, only to eventually abandon the project completely. We only learned the full story later when a member of their team, joined us as a Partner! This wasn't a one-off either. We've seen this play out in different forms numerous times. What these experiences have taught us is invaluable: while the surface idea can be copied, the genuine depth of understanding, the passionate drive, and the accumulated expertise that fuels true innovation, is impossible to replicate. Sustainable success, we’ve learned, is built not on mimicry, but on authentic innovation and the deep execution that comes from it.
On a personal level, I've always found it a bit unsettling when I encounter people who try to be overtly clever or act ‘smart’ in their interactions. It's always felt inauthentic to me. I strongly believe that when people resort to such tactics, they inadvertently put their own reputation, trust, and ultimately, their own success at risk. In my experience, there's always a more effective and fulfilling path: to give credit where it’s due, to work together openly and honestly, and most importantly, to focus on and excel in our own core strengths. These personal observations, mirroring our professional experiences, have solidified my belief that our unique DNA – that blend of deep understanding, passionate commitment, and unwavering vision – is the real differentiator. True success isn't about being first to an idea or getting upset when others copy; it’s about consistently staying true to our original vision and executing it with genuine understanding. Let's continue to champion our originality, creating authentic value that simply cannot be duplicated, to Stay Ahead.
