Perception Matters!

In our Professional & Personal Lives, we have often seen People managing Perception about themselves and creating Perception about others. Perception is indeed a reality and we all need to always keep that in mind. And often there is a difference between Perception and Reality. I have seen that in a real-world no one really cares about our real intentions. Not because they are heartless or selfish. It’s just that because people simply do not have that much time to understand a person. We all are in a state of constant hurry and that's why we make decision short-cuts all the time. And one of the decision shortcuts that we often make is to judge what we see/hear and create Perceptions. I believe Perception is actually important to everyone. So often we do not see/hear accurately what someone is trying to communicate, because we often get the gist and then we fill in the gaps according to our own experiences and perception so far. This new perception of the conversation or even...

Never Burn Bridges!

I have heard this metaphor so many times and is one of the most contentious ones I believe. There's a view that because we live in such a small world, it is critically important not to burn bridges - no matter how tempted we might be! We aren’t going to like everyone and everyone isn’t going to like us, but there’s no need to not be friends. Another view is that if we hang around toxic people, get the matches ready. The constant complainers, those that see everything in a negative light, anyone that holds us back or anyone that leads us to make not good decisions…. Why keep them around? Burn that bridge. We’ve also read that some military leaders would burn bridges that they had crossed so they couldn’t retreat and so their enemies couldn’t follow behind them. When we burn our bridges, sometimes it's so we can move forward only, giving ourselves only one option. Forward or Nothing. Also, there are times in life when our emotions get the best of us. We say things we don’t me...

Opportunities Multiply As they are Seized!

Sun Tzu was a Chinese General & Philosopher and is most known for writing the Art of War. Sun Tzu often wrote about the importance of Strategy and the wisdom that he shared is still extremely applicable today whether in Business or in Life. One wisdom which stuck with me was about Opportunities Multiply as they are seized. I personally believe that every opportunity opens the door for something else, every time we seize it. Often in Business & Life, I always see opportunities presented to people in various forms. But, not many people make use of it, even if it's right there, in front of them. Sometimes, it just takes one opportunity for the floodgates to open. Success in life hinges more on seizing opportunity than having everything go according to plan. Planning and preparedness are great, but the real magic happens when we allow ourselves to be flexible and seize on opportunities to stand out. I have heard it so many times that most people miss Opportunity because it i...

Turn Problems Into Opportunities!

This week while going through the Interview of our Minister of Road Transport & Highways And MSMEs in Economic Times where he spoke about his Mega Plans. One statement made by him in the interview stuck with me that was "I always say this: there are some people who convert an opportunity into a problem and there are some who convert a problem into an opportunity. I am a person who turns Problems into Opportunities. My job is to find a way to solve problems." Let’s face it, life throws problems at us pretty much all the time. The way of finding a solution for a given problem can open many doors of opportunities in front of us. I also totally concur with our Minister's statement because when we work hard but still face annoying small or big problems, there is just one thing that we can do – accept the problems and try to transform them into big Opportunities. The bigger problem we try to solve, the Bigger Opportunity we may have. However, there's always one simpl...
