Over Communicate !

Image
The biggest lesson I’ve learned as Co-Founder of a Startup is the art of over-communicating. I’m constantly repeating the Problem we are trying to solve to all the stakeholders. When I thought I couldn’t over-communicate anymore, I would reiterate the Solution again. I noticed a funny thing begin to happen. People started to understand what and more importantly why we were doing things. The message was trickling with all the stakeholders. People would repeat to each other what I was repeating to them. I have seen in the absence of information, most people fill in the blanks, make up their own story … and usually add negative assumptions. I believe no amount of over-communication is too much when alignment is at stake. “Over-communicate. It’s better to tell someone something they already know than to not tell them something they needed to hear.” ~ Alex Irvine. In the context of the ongoing crisis where in-person meetings are almost not happening, people having limited attention sp...

Don't Waste a Crisis!

Image
You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that: It’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before' ~ Rahm Emanuel. The shut-downs initially made many of us wonder – what are we going to do during this time? But as the pandemic persisted, the questions evolved along more practical as well as philosophical lines, such as: What are we going to do with this time? Where are we going to live? Where will we work? How will we work? We have now reached a stage where we should consider what have we learned from this period that will make us better, stronger, and more resilient? How will this transform us as individuals, as families, as social creatures, and as organizations? And what and how much of what we learned and accomplished will be (or should be) carried forward into Whatever Comes Next? In the world of Business and Life, we are often guilty of not challenging the norm; we are instead satisfied with following procedure and tradition. In challengi...

Making Life a Celebration!

Image
Diwali, which is one of the most important festivals in India, done differently this year. Much less fanfare but a lot more togetherness and still it's quite the celebration. In the Indian culture, there was a time when there used to be a festival every day of the year – 365 festivals in a year – because a festival is a tool to bring life to a state of exuberance and enthusiasm. That was the significance and importance of festivals. The whole culture was in a state of celebration. If today was plowing day, it was a kind of celebration. Tomorrow was planting day, another kind of celebration. During festivals like Diwali, family, and friends get together for the celebrations. If we approach everything in a celebratory way, we learn to be non-serious about life but absolutely involved. As I reflect on this, I see the value in celebrating every day and figured we could all benefit from taking a moment to celebrate the little and big achievements in our lives. Can We Start Our Day as a ...

Take Rest!

Image
I have been in crisis mode since the onset of this Year. This week another crisis hit when many in the society I live in tested positive for the Corona Virus. Thankfully, none in my family contracted this Virus. I soon realised We all are dealing with two contagions — the virus itself and the emotions it generates. I went through the negative emotions that are every bit as contagious as the virus, and they’re also toxic. Fatigue, fear, and panic which come along with this virus undermines our ability to think clearly and creatively, manage our relationships effectively, focus attention on the right priorities, and make smart, informed choices. Besides, there are always just too many things to get done, too many demands, too many responsibilities, too many bills, and too much urgency. Amidst all this, listening to my Mentors advice, I decided to Take Rest & try as much as to do nothing. Very difficult for a person like me, however, my family & my Team supported me to Take Rest f...

Work & Live from Anywhere!

Image
The present ongoing crisis has unwittingly sparked off a giant global experiment in mass anywhere working & living, the office & home are well on their way to being reinvented. 'Do we really need to be together, in an office, to do our work?' We got our answer during the pandemic lockdowns. We learned that a great many of us don’t in fact need to be colocated with colleagues on-site to do our jobs. Individuals, teams, entire workforces, can perform well while being entirely distributed—and they have. So now we face new questions: Are all-remote or majority-remote organizations the future of knowledge work? Is work from anywhere (WFA) here to stay post the ongoing crisis? I keep saying that this crisis is an opportunity for us to reinvent the way we Work & Live. As a Startuprenure & avid traveler, I have been Working from Anywhere for a long time now and am aware of the challenges & benefits. I firmly believe that Work From Anywhere is here to stay and will...
